We follow the MC3 curriculum when teaching Social Studies in 5th grade. The students learn about Our Government in the first unit. From their they will learn about how Three Worlds Meet- The Native Americans, Africans, and the Europeans, which will take us up to the Revolutionary War.
Students will be assessed at the end of each Unit. Although we use MC3 as a curriculum base there will be supplemental non-fiction reading and activities integrated throughout each unit.
All the MC3 curriculum is under the student resource tab.
There will not be a Wax Museum this year. Students will be doing unit projects and becoming the teacher (expert) in the classroom for a specific topic and will present to the class at the end of that unit.
Non-fiction ELA will be incorporated into the Social Studies Curriculum daily. Non-fiction reading Common Core Standards will be taught in a mini lesson at the beginning of class. The students will create an interactive notebook to use as a student resource to assist them in reading and Social Studies.
